StressCheck Tutorial: Feature-Based Mesh Refinement
Abstract: Feature-based mesh refinement using the MeshSim automesher’s Curve method. Increase mesh refinement on selected boundaries, such as surfaces or curves, without affecting the global automesh. Discussion of the influence of the MeshSim Ratio parameter on feature-based mesh refinement.
Helpful Hint: for a specific number of element edges around a selected hole boundary, you may set the D/H value in the Curve method to be tan(pi/2/(n-1))/2, where n is the number of desired element edges. Note that the MinLen value may need to be decreased to allow n element edges.

“Through the use of StressCheck® the A-10 Aircraft Structural Integrity Program’s (ASIP) Analysis Group is able to model more accurately the physics of fatigue crack propagation in critical aircraft structure. Through this tool we are able to model, analyze and predict failure of aircraft structure and then develop crucial inspection and maintenance planes to ensure the safety and sustainability of our nations warplanes. Without the analysis capability provided to us through StressCheck® we would not be able to provide accurate assessments of the A-10 structure to top USAF leadership.”
