StressCheck Tutorial: 2D vs 3D Cold Working Analysis of a Close Edge Distance Hole
Abstract: Modeling of a 3″x5″ titanium strip with a 0.45″ diameter hole at a short edge distance (ED=1.5*D) from the right edge of the strip. The titanium’s elastic-plastic material is described by a Ramberg-Osgood curve with pure isotropic hardening (i.e. (beta=0). The mandrel insertion/removal nonlinear event is simulated by normal springs + spring displacements.
Planar (plane stress) and 3D (Extrude reference) models are solved via Incremental plasticity theory and residual stresses are studied.
