Confucius (551-479 BC) tells us, engineers working in the 21st century AD, that having a firm grasp on terminology is an essential prerequisite to success. But why are there so many popular but misleading or meaningless terms floating around in engineering presentations, technical papers, blog articles, trainings and workplace environments? Read more in this blog.
In mid-May 2023, ESRD’s Co-Founder and Chairman Dr. Barna Szabó delivered a keynote presentation at the ASME VVUQ 2023 Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Dr. Szabó’s presentation, entitled “Simulation Governance: An Idea Whose Time Has Come”, will focus on the goals and means of Simulation Governance with reference to mechanical/aerospace engineering practice. We are pleased to announce that the recording of the keynote presentation is now available.
Mathematical models have become indispensable sources of information on which technical and business decisions are based. It is therefore vitally important for decision-makers to know whether relying on the predictions of mathematical models is justified. When properly used, numerical simulation can be a major corporate asset. However, it can become a major corporate liability if the reliability of predictions is not guaranteed. Learn more in our latest blog post.
Dr. Ivo Babuška, co-founder of ESRD, passed away on April 12, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He made important contributions to the reliability of finite element methods, the development of a general framework for finite element error estimation, and the development of the p- and hp-versions of the finite element method. We will miss his counsel, his unique insights and quick wit.

On February 7, 2023 a 2-hour webinar titled “What’s New and Improved in StressCheck Professional” was provided by ESRD’s Brent Lancaster to a group of StressCheck enthusiasts. This webinar provided demonstrations of the “latest and greatest” enhancements in StressCheck v11.1, and a look toward future development activities happening in StressCheck v11.2. In case you missed it, the webinar slides and the webinar recording are now available!
As we continue to adapt to a mix of remote and in-office work, we hope that this past year you found our software products, customer support, training options/courses, “StressCheck Tip of the Week” posts, and e-Learning resources to be helpful and accommodating. We certainly couldn’t do it without your valuable feedback and contributions! We are committed to supporting your current and future engineering endeavors and look forward to what the future holds in 2023.
Happy Holidays from all of us at ESRD, and we hope you’ll check out our year-end summary!
Recently at ASIP 2022 in Phoenix, AZ, ESRD provided a 2-hour training course titled “Best Practices for the Modeling and Analysis of Bonded Doubler Repairs”, presented a technical paper titled “DTA of Bonded Repairs on the Wing Skin of the C-130 Using Finite Elements”, chatted with “patients” at the StressCheck Clinic, and exhibited at our captivating booth inside the Sheraton Phoenix Hotel & Conference Center.
We are also planning a webinar for February 7, 2023 titled “What’s New and Improved in StressCheck Professional”. We hope you can attend this “must-see” event!
Read the summary of conference events, view the ASIP training course content (including the presentation and demo videos), and register for our upcoming webinar.
ESRD, Inc. will be exhibiting, presenting a technical paper (on DTA of bonded repairs) and providing a 2-hour training course in person and virtually at the ASIP Conference 2022 in Phoenix, AZ from November 28-December 1, 2022.
“Of the three FEA products we use, StressCheck gives me the most confidence when it comes to performing post-processing quality checks on multi-body contact analysis results. StressCheck has the capability to extract any data of interest and convergence information for that data at any location in the model domain; the other two FEA products do not. And when it comes to interference fit multi-body contact solutions, I haven’t found any software to outperform StressCheck.”
