In the October 2018 issue of NAFEMS Benchmark magazine, ESRD Chairman Dr. Barna Szabó posed a new “FEA Puzzler”: Can you determine the progression in spring rate as a 3D coil spring is deformed? And, can you verify the accuracy of your solution? Give it your best shot!
In this S.A.F.E.R. Simulation article, we explore the concept of Hierarchic Modeling, some practical applications of Hierarchic Modeling, and the importance of implementing a Hierarchic Modeling framework in CAE software tools to support the practice of Simulation Governance.
How can the vision for expanding the use of numerical simulation by persons who do not have expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) be safely realized? The solution lies in the establishment of Simulation Governance through the development and dissemination of expert-designed Engineering Simulation Apps. Read more[…]
In this final post of our “S.A.F.E.R. Numerical Simulation for Structural Analysis in the Aerospace Industry” series, we will profile the stress analysis software product StressCheck, what makes it different from other FEA software and the applications for which it is used in A&D engineering.[…]
In this month’s S.A.F.E.R. Simulation Views we asked David Rusk, Team Lead over Airframe Risk & Reliability, Structure Division, for the U.S. Navy NAVAIR Systems Command about the challenges faced by A&D programs. […]
Introducing S.A.F.E.R. Simulation Views, where we invite colleagues, simulation experts, and A&D industry leaders to address simple questions about simulation. In this edition, ESRD’s President & CEO Dr. Ricardo Actis is asked about the hurdles we must overcome to achieve simulation-driven design. […]
In this second of our multi-part series on “S.A.F.E.R. Numerical Simulation for Structural Analysis in the Aerospace Industry” we will distill what the need for higher-fidelity engineering analysis means to stress analysis groups and the challenges experienced when using legacy simulation and analysis technologies based on the finite element method (FEM). […]
In this third of our multi-part series on “S.A.F.E.R. Numerical Simulation for Structural Analysis in the Aerospace Industry” we will examine why Numerical Simulation is not the same as Finite Element Modeling and what this means to the structural analysis function within the A&D industry. […]
The global aviation, aerospace, and defense industries face unrelenting pressure for ever-increasing levels of operational performance, lifecycle reliability, and mission robustness in their products, platforms, and programs delivered to commercial and military customers. This is occurring concurrently with greater demand for overall system performance that is faster, lighter, quieter, smarter, greener, and more connected […]
“We have been having very good success using the P-Version finite element code, StressCheck, to develop the 2-D solutions for two independent cracks in a plate. I have asked one of our AFGROW team members to model the plate and lug cases using StressCheck and compare them to the existing AFGROW closed-form solutions. [He] modeled the cases several different ways to be sure that he was getting the best possible solutions. He has verified that the bearing load option in StressCheck provides excellent results.”
